{"id":158,"date":"2013-11-01T05:22:01","date_gmt":"2013-11-01T05:22:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/compliancems.com.au\/?p=158"},"modified":"2013-11-01T05:22:01","modified_gmt":"2013-11-01T05:22:01","slug":"tga-australian-medical-device-sponsors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/compliancems.com.au\/?p=158","title":{"rendered":"TGA \/ Australian Medical Device Sponsors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><b>What is a medical device?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">As per the Therapeutic Goods Regulation, Section 41DB, a medical device is:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u2018any instrument, apparatus, appliance, material or other article (whether used alone or in combination, and including the software necessary for its proper application) intended, by the person under whose name it is or is to be supplied, to be used for human beings for the purpose of one or more of the following:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment or alleviation of disease;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, alleviation of or compensation for an injury or disability;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">investigation, replacement or modification of the anatomy or of a physiological process;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">control of conception;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">and that does not achieve its principal intended action in or on the human body by pharmacological, immunological or metabolic means, but that may be assisted in its function by such means; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">aa. any instrument, apparatus, appliance, material or other article specified under subsection (2A); or<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">ab. any instrument, apparatus, appliance, material or other article that is included in a class of instruments, apparatus, appliances, materials or other articles specified under subsection (2B); or<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993300;\">an accessory to such an instrument, apparatus, appliance, material or other article covered by paragraph (a), (aa) or (ab).\u2019<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><b>Medical Device Sponsors<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Before someone can supply a medical device for sale in Australia they are required to make an application to include the device in the ARTG.
